Dear Friends,
The Foundation has now completed the capital campaign for the Davidson Center. The Center is named for Bob and Jan Davidson, who contributed a total of $16 million toward the building and The Davidson Academy. Foundation Trustees, Emeriti Trustees and their affiliated organizations collectively raised $3.4 million toward the project. Many of these gifts were matched one-to-one by the Foundation through a $2 million matching gift challenge introduced in October 2007. The State of Nevada will round out the project funding with appropriations of $54 million.
This summer we will dedicate the new Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center while simultaneously beginning construction on the Davidson Mathematics and Science Center. We will be opening a new building in the same year as we put a spade in the ground to start the foundation of a new one! The new building we dedicate and the new one we start are the direct result of the time, effort and energy of Foundation Trustees and Emeriti Trustees.
This year we will also begin a campaign to raise $12.9 million in private philanthropy for a health sciences education building. This 51,000 square-foot building will benefit the University of Nevada School of Medicine and Orvis School of Nursing by providing critical laboratories and educational and research spaces desperately needed by our medicine and nursing students and faculty. Our fundraising challenge will be to raise the $12.9 million by the time the Davidson building is dedicated so we can put the spade in the ground to start the health sciences education building in the same year.
