Nevada's Impact - Cody Bakker
Sophomore, College of Engineering
Recipient of the Edward C. Coppin Scholarship.
I am from Lovelock, Nevada, an extremely small town just East of Reno. I am a Nevada native and have been raised on a family farm for all my life. Growing up I have always been fascinated with building and inventing. Even now as a teenager I am still very fascinated with the invention of new technology. I was a part of the Science Olympiad team in Lovelock and have built many odds and ends in my agriculture class using welders and woodworking machines. I decided to become a Mechanical Engineer because I love to build and want to learn more about how everything works.
I am a sophomore at UNR. I am studying to be a Mechanical Engineer and am hoping to get my minor in Renewable Energy. This year I hope to do exceptionally well with schoolwork and I want to get at least a 3.5 GPA this semester. I have a lot of friends that are in the same area of study as me, so I get to hang out with them while we help each other learn and study. I hope that over the next couple of summers I will get to participate in an internship. The whereabouts of this internship are still unknown. I hope to get into a field that includes Alternative/Renewable energy.
One of the things that I am very interested in is Hydrogen. I have recently been introduced to Hydrogen as a combustible fuel. My goal is to one day create an engine that will run on pure hydrogen. I also want to find a new source to retrieve hydrogen from so that we may use it to power many other objects such as planes and buildings. There are many other dreams that I hope to accomplish while here at UNR.
